Mental health hospital forced to close after string of ‘abusive’ incidents
The Metro says: A mental health hospital in Staffordshire was closed after an inspection uncovered a string of abusive and unprofessional incidents.
Two incidents captured on CCTV showed doors being slammed or forced shut on a patient, with inspectors making a host of damning findings on hygiene, patient treatment and poor care.
The 41-bed hospital in Ashley, run by Coveberry Limited, catered for patients with a learning disability or autism – but the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said that there had been ‘multiple examples’ of staff pulling or dragging patients in an effort to move them to seclusion rooms.
In a report published on Wednesday, the CQC said it had examined CCTV of six incidents on one ward at Eldertree Lodge between February 27 and April 13.
