Apple rejects privacy fears over iPhone abuse scanner
The Times says Apple has said that it would “steadfastly refuse” to comply with any government demands to use the software it has developed to detect child abuse on iPhones for any other type of image.
Last week the company said it would be releasing software that could scan an iPhone user’s photos to check if any matched known images of child sex abuse. The new tool will be implemented for users in the US first, and introduced across the world later on. The feature works only if a user’s iCloud service on their iPhone is switched on. It cannot detect any new child abuse images.
