Tokyo Olympics: Britain steal gold from New Zealand in 49er class race before Giles Scott triumphs in Finn class
The Times says Great Britain celebrated double gold medal triumphs in sailing in two thrilling races. Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell produced a nerveless performance in the medal race in the 49er class to steal gold from their New Zealand rivals before Giles Scott made a brilliant comeback to defend his title in the Finn class.
Fletcher and Bithell went into their race tied on points with the Spanish in second place behind the superstar Kiwi crew of Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.
To beat the New Zealanders they needed to be ahead and have one boat between them and the America’s Cup winners and defending gold medallists, who were definitely the favourites.
