Sarah Ferguson’s new career as steamy novelist with plot based on her own family
The Mirror says: The Duchess of York is no stranger to the ups and downs of romance. Now Sarah Ferguson is starting a new chapter – as a grandma and Mills & Boon novelist.
Speaking ahead of today’s release of her first historical romance, Her Heart for a Compass, she confirms she is already in talks for a TV adaptation – and even has her top picks to play her hero.
She says: “We’re talking to some of the streaming services. The leading men would be superb to cast. In my imagination I see someone like [Poldark star] Aidan Turner, James Norton [of War and Peace] or Tom Hughes [who played Prince Albert in Victoria].”
And for her heroine, the Duchess is all about the fellow redheads: “Lady Margaret would be an actress like Jess Buckley [of The Woman in White] or Eleanor Tomlinson [Poldark].”
Her Heart for a Compass is a fictional romance based on Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott, daughter of the Duchess’s great-great-great grandparents. Fergie heard of her during research for BBC1’s Who Do You Think You Are? but was shocked at how little was documented.
“I was determined to write this invisible woman into history,” she says.
