Tokyo Olympics: Team GB Zoom call with PM Boris Johnson before Games

The Times says Boris Johnson held a rousing zoom call with four members of the British Olympic team yesterday, wishing them luck for the Games.

The Olympics officially starts today with the opening ceremony and Johnson, calling from his official residence at Chequers, had what was described as a relaxed, friendly chat with Olympic gold medallist Max Whitlock, fellow gymnast Joe Fraser, boxer Lauren Price and rower Karen Bennett. British Olympic staff said the conversation eventually moved on to the UK’s Covid-19 vaccination programme, which the athletes acknowledged had enhanced their chances of participating in the Games.
