We prepared for 820,000 Covid deaths, Matt Hancock tells Select Committee
The i says Matt Hancock has said that the Government was preparing for up to 820,000 deaths from coronavirus, under worst-case scenario plans.
Mr Hancock told a select committee of MPs that he told his department to plan for the worst case scenario in January, based on the coronavirus behaving like Spanish Flu. He said the reasonable worst case scenario was for 820,000 deaths and he “was determined that that would not happen on my watch”.
