Magdalen College Oxford to remove Queen’s portrait over colonial links
The Times says students at an Oxford college have voted to remove a portrait of the Queen from their common room because she is regarded as a representative of colonial rule.
Magdalen, founded in 1458, is one of the wealthiest and most traditional Oxford colleges. Its alumni include the authors CS Lewis and Oscar Wilde, the politicians Lord Hague of Richmond and George Osborne and the comedian Dudley Moore.
