UK: Zero daily Covid-19 deaths for first time
The UK has announced zero daily deaths from Covid within 28 days of a positive test for the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020. The latest data shows 3,165 new COVID-19 cases were also recorded in the latest 24-hour period.
Matt Hancock tweeted that although the “whole country will be so glad there were no COVID-related deaths recorded yesterday… we know we haven’t beaten this virus yet”.
It comes amid concern over a small rise in cases linked to the Delta variant – the variant first identified in India.
