Michael Kiwanuka wins Mercury prize for self-titled album
WTX News says Michael Kiwanuka has won this year’s Mercury Prize.
The singer-songwriter, from North London, had been nominated twice before, but it was his third self-titled album that scored the prize.
He beat off competition from Stormzy, Dua Lipa, Charlie XCX, Kano and Laura Marling.
He told the BBC: “This year, I thought if there’s any chance, it would be this one. I was resigned to the fact if I didn’t win this year, I would never win. But I never thought I actually would.”

Taio Cruz quits TikTok after ‘suicidal thoughts’
BBC News says Taio Cruz has opened up about his reasons for quitting TikTok, saying he wanted to preserve his mental health after having “suicidal thoughts”.
The musician said he had been targeted by “hateful” videos and comments on the video-sharing app.
“My body was shaking and I had suicidal thoughts,” he explained on Instagram.
“I pride myself on being mentally resilient so the fact that I felt that way, shocked even me.”

Selena Gomez shows off kidney transplant scar in swimwear shot
Sky News says Selena Gomez has revealed a scar on her inner thigh, which was left following a kidney transplant three years ago.
The pop star, 28, received the kidney from her friend Francia Raisa after suffering complications from the autoimmune disease lupus.
It was later revealed that Gomez nearly died due to complications from the surgery.
She told fans she had previously been ashamed to let others see the scar, but now felt “proud” of her past and was ready to show it off.
