More than 43,000 people offer to house Ukrainian refugees making website crash
The Metro says more than 43,000 people have offered to take in Ukrainian refugees as part of the Government’s sponsorship scheme, with the number ‘continuing to rise’.
Communities Secretary Michael Gove told MPs on Monday there will be no limit on the number of Ukrainian nationals and residents who can come to the UK as they face ‘their darkest hours’.
The ‘Homes for Ukraine’ website ‘temporarily stalled’ after it went live late on Monday afternoon due to the ‘enormous generosity of the British public’ in offering to take in those fleeing the conflict with Russia, a spokesman for his department said.
Almost three million people have fled Ukraine since Vladimir Putin unleashed war on the country and civilians have continued to find themselves caught up in the fighting.
