The episode in question ties into the dramatic peak of the conversion therapy storyline, aiming to show the juxtaposition of such a heartbreaking story amid the joy of other characters’ journeys as they come together in solidarity.
Sally St Claire (Annie Wallace), meanwhile, shares the history behind the solidarity flag and what it means not just to her as a trans woman but also the LGBTQ+ community.
‘I think that fans should tune in to the solidarity episode purely even for Annie Wallace,’ actor Kieron Richardson told Metro.co.uk. ‘She’s got this great speech near the end of the episode which she actually wrote herself. We didn’t know on the day until we did the line run.
‘She was talking about growing up as a trans woman and there was quite an impassioned speech where we actually learned a lot as actors on the day.

‘Annie told us that she wrote that speech herself, so I think it’s quite nice that the viewers get to see from Annie’s eyes actually what it was like growing up in a different time.’
Elsewhere, the conversion therapy story reaches a huge peak, with John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) finding out exactly what Carter Shepherd (David Ames) is up to.
Hollyoaks lines up an incredibly powerful week, with a special solidarity episode at the centre of it all (Picture: Lime Pictures)
The deputy teacher subsequently confronts Carter, devastated at the idea of someone thinking their sexuality is a sin, and things get physical, according to actor James Sutton.
Jack Osborne (Jimmy McKenna), meanwhile, is blown away by his surprise party at The Dog that Pearl Anderson (Dawn Hope) and Darren (Ashley Taylor Dawson) arranged, but a gift from Pearl doesn’t quite go to plan when it’s revealed she mistakenly booked a stripper instead of a tribute act!
Hollyoaks streams weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
