2023 World Cup: Netherlands vs South Africa predictions

This 2023 World Cup has been truly thrilling. And if you’ve been loving the tournament as much as we have – the next few days are set to be a footballing dream. This weekend will see some VERY BIG games as Switzerland take on Spain, the USA are up against Sweden and favourites to win Japan are also in action.

Here are a few expert predictions for the hotly anticipated Netherlands vs South Africa.

South Africa 3-2 Italy: Shock as Italy knocked out and SA progress to last-16 with first World Cup win
South Africa 3-2 Italy: Shock as Italy knocked out and SA progress to last-16 with first World Cup win

Every neutral watching this game will be a South Africa after seeing the way that the Banyana Banyana defied all odds to get out of the group stage, having never previously taken a World Cup point. They shocked Italy and gave Sweden a run for their money too.

This is a more polished Netherlands team than we saw at Euro 2022, free of the setbacks that affected then them. They are without Vivianne Miedema but that was known for months in advance and others like Esmee Brugts and Jill Roord have upped their level in her absence.

    Prediction: Netherlands 2-1 South Africa – (90MINS)

The Netherlands will go into the last-16 tie as heavy favourites, and while we expect South Africa to cause their opponents one or two problems, we think the Dutch will have the extra-quality required to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Prediction: Netherlands 3-1 South Africa – (SportsMole)

The Netherlands are the favourites here but we expect South Africa to be lively and strong. Don’t think for a second this will be an easy game – South Africa are tough opponents but the Dutch should have the extra quality and experience to book their quarter-final spot.
