### Tumbler Ridge Shooting Incident
The alleged suspect behind the mass shooting in a remote Canadian town has been pictured holding a gun and wrote that they were feeling ‘pretty aimless’ six months ago, WTX News can reveal.
Jesse Strang has been named as the alleged shooter in Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia, Canada. Six people were shot dead at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, and one person died en route to the hospital. Two more individuals were found dead inside a home in the ‘close-knit’ town, while at least 25 people were injured in the rampage.
### Information on Jesse Strang
WTX News can now reveal that Jesse Strang – named as the suspect by CTV News – came from a family that appeared to have a gun cabinet and went ‘hunting’. Jesse has a very limited online social media presence, with the most recent photo of the suspect coming from their mum’s Instagram in July 2024. Jesse appears to be behind a since-deleted YouTube account.
In a Facebook post, their mum mentioned: ‘Check out my oldest son Jesse Strang’s YouTube channel. He posts about hunting, self-reliance, guns, and things he enjoys doing.’ The post continued: ‘He doesn’t go on many other social media platforms, so this is his way of sharing his life.’ The YouTube channel was live on Wednesday morning but has since been removed by the platform.
### Social Media Activity
The account seems to indicate that the suspect goes by ‘she/her’ pronouns and referred to themselves as Jess. The channel featured only one post, where they noted six months ago: ‘I’ve been pretty um, aimless. :P’ The name of the channel, JessJessUwU, might reference a meme connected to the furry community.
Pictures shared online by Jesse’s family indicate that the suspect’s family home had a gun cabinet. In August 2024, the mum shared a photo of six guns in a cabinet with the caption: ‘Think it’s time to take them out for some target practice.’ The suspected shooter has also been seen holding a rifle on social media. In August 2021, Jesse’s grandparents posted a picture of Jesse with a rifle-type gun.
A tragic post shows Jesse’s mum expressed horror at the gun violence allegedly committed by her child. Following the shooting death of Charlie Kirk in September 2025, Jesse’s mum wrote on Instagram: ‘Sheesh… I’m glad I’m not far right or far left. Political extremism blinded by rage is mental.’
### Incident Overview
During the shooting, Jesse was described as a ‘female in a dress with brown hair’ by an emergency alert sent to locals in Tumbler Ridge. Police received the first report of an active shooter at 1:20 PM local time (9:20 PM in the UK). Pupils in the tight-knit school recounted how they barricaded themselves inside classrooms for two hours during what has become one of the deadliest school shootings in the country’s history. Around 100 students and staff were evacuated from the school after law enforcement arrived at the scene.
One of the victims, Maya Edmonds, 12, was shot in the neck and head while attending Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. A fundraiser has been established to assist Maya during her recovery, with her mother writing: ‘I’m writing this post sitting in Vancouver Children’s Hospital while my daughter fights for her life. Today started as any other. Now, however, my 12-year-old daughter is fighting for her life as they attempt to repair the damage from a gunshot wound to the head and one to the neck. She was a lucky one, I suppose. Condolences to the other families during this tragedy. This doesn’t even feel real.’
