A large number of dogs have been seized after a child, 6, was attacked in Carrington, Greater Manchester.

Neighbours saw a young girl ‘covered in blood’ and heard her mum shouting ‘help me, help me – my baby’.

The girl’s family including older sister, mum, dad and neighbours managed to pull the dogs off the girl, reports The Sun.

Police have now seized 17 dogs after the incident.

Detective inspector Matthew Dixon, said: ‘This is a fluid investigation and so far we have recovered 17 dogs and made three arrests, as well as a vehicle of interest.

‘However, the investigation is very much ongoing and anyone with information should contact police quoting log 1612-26/03/23.’

It was first reported that a pack of four dogs had attacked the six-year-old girl on Sunday.

Eight dogs and nine puppies were seized by Greater Manchester Police.

Three people were taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of owning a dangerous dog after the incident on Ackers Lane shortly before 2.40pm.

They have since been released on bail.

A neighbour who caught it on CCTV told the Sun: ‘It was horrendous. My own children could have been attacked out there.’

They explained how most of the dogs had been kept in a caravan.

Another local claimed to MailOnline the owner ‘was breeding XL bully dogs in the caravan.’

A pensioner who lives nearby said the girl was ‘pounced on’ by the pack.

He said it happened when the girl ran up the neighbour’s path to knock on the door and believed the breed were pitbulls.

The pensioner described a similar incident last month when the pack attacked another owner’s dog.

Greater Manchester Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over the incident.

As part of the investigation, a van has also been found in south Manchester and is being examined.
