Loughborough Junction: Three killed by train in south London

Three people have died at a London train station after being struck by a train near Loughborough Junction station in south London.

Emergency services were called to the station, between Herne Hill and Elephant and Castle, at about 07:30 BST after reports that multiple people were hit by the train leaving several bodies.

London Ambulance Service paramedics attended, but three people were pronounced dead at the scene. No explanation or identities have been confirmed and the police are treating this as suspicious and have started investigating the matter.

Loughborough Junction is near Brixton in South London and the station is located between Herne Hill and Elephant and Castle and is operated by Thameslink.

Det Supt Gary Richardson, from British Transport Police (BTP), said his “thoughts are with the family and friends of these three people”.

The station is currently open, but BTP warned that train services will be delayed while inquiries are carried out.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said his heart “goes out to the families of the three killed.”
