The weather forecast for Wednesday may be looking bright and sunny, but in Dubai, it’s a completely different story. The United Arab Emirates recently experienced its heaviest downpour since records began in 1949, causing chaos and devastation for residents.
According to Dubai’s media office, the heavy rains led to water entering homes, underground car parks, and even left some buildings without power. The aftermath of the storm resulted in widespread flooding, with one person tragically losing their life after being swept away by flash floods in the north of the country.
Neighbouring Oman also faced the wrath of the heavy rains, with at least 18 people reported dead due to flooding. The country’s National Committee for Emergency Management issued a statement confirming the casualties.
The heavy rains in the desert nation were a result of cloud seeding, a practice that the UAE has been carrying out since 2002 to address water security issues. However, the lack of proper drainage in many areas exacerbated the flooding situation.
As residents in Dubai and Oman continue to deal with the aftermath of the severe weather, it serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of Mother Nature. Stay safe and stay informed as we navigate through the changing weather patterns.
