Jack Grealish shows his class on Champions League debut
The i says the Champions League almost always begins one way for Manchester City. Measured, impressive group-stage results, followed by something wild, chaotic and destructive in the knockout phase.
It might be the absolute chaos of the 2019 quarter-final with Tottenham or Pep Guardiola’s belief that he could do without a holding midfielder in the final against Chelsea. But in this competition City are a club that goes from sipping sweet sherry and discussing world affairs to necking whisky from the bottle.
This, however, was more Jack Daniel’s than Harvey’s Bristol Cream. It was a wild, formless evening that saw Manchester City repeatedly take control before surrendering it again.
