Platinum Jubilee – Day 1 – What’s on the schedule for today?Â
What’s on the agenda for Day 1 of the platinum jubilee weekend? It’ll all start with a major event this morning – the Trooping the Colour.
The Queen’s birthday parade sees royals joined by soldiers, musicians and horses as they make their way down the mall towards Buckingham Palace.
The Queen will not take the salute this year, likely due to mobility issues, and instead Prince Charles, Prince William and Princess Anne will take the salute instead. They will ride on the parade as colonels of the Welsh Guards, the Irish Guards and the Blues and Royals.Â
The parade will begin at 10am and finish will a RAF flypast at 1pm – which working royals and their kids will watch from the Buckingham Palace balcony.Â
Prince Andrew, Prince Harry and Meghan will not be on the balcony.
However, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge and their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be on the balcony.Â

Harry and Meghan are both in the UK for the weekend celebrations along with their two children – Archie and Lili. They are expected to watch the Trooping the Colour parade from the Major General’s Office.
The second and final event for today will be the lighting of the platinum jubilee beacons.Â
Buckingham Palace announced late on Wednesday that the Queen would be lighting the principle jubilee beacon in a special ceremony at Windsor castle.Â
Prince William will light the beacon at Buckingham Palace. These beacons are planned to be lit at 9.25 pm this evening.Â
There will be roughly 2,022 beacons to be lit across the UK and Commonwealth nations to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign.Â
Both of the events on Thursday 2 June will be broadcast live by the BBC.Â
