We don’t know about you, but we need a holiday. And when one is taking off to somewhere such as Ibiza (do you feel seen?) a car makes things much easier.
In true Peter Kay style, we took one look at the recent flight sales and essentially booked it, packed it and…well, you know the rest.
Alongside an in-date passport, universal plug adaptor and a range of bikinis that offer tummy control after a winter of eating wheels of brie, we’ll need to think about getting around and renting a car is probably the easiest option for the intrepid traveller.
You may be brave enough to try public transport but we personally still get lost on the tube. Seriously. We once got stuck in the tunnel at Kennington on our own for 10 minutes and started writing a will.
And not only is taking taxis costly but it can lead to some awkward encounters. Or maybe that’s just us. Let’s just say we tried to ask our Spanish taxi driver for some good local sausage and he got flustered and showed us his wedding ring. We were only after a taste of chorizo.
So if you’re keen to do some exploring, you could always get behind the wheel. Of a car that is, not brie (yum). And we’re here to guide you through the process.

Don’t be jumping into random cars. That’s stranger danger 101. You need to hire a car from a reputable brand, with the likes of Enterprise Rent-A-Car having a ton of locations in the UK and are fast growing, popping up everywhere like a handy whack-a-mole.
If you’re heading to the Balearic Islands (which is Ibiza Mallorca, Menorca, and Formentera for those who didn’t listen in geography) you can grab a car from the airport. It’s got a fab range of options, including economy, SUVs and people carriers. You can even zip around in a fancy convertible if you want to feel like one of the women from Selling Sunset.
Some words to the wise on holiday car rental…
Cheap? It’s probably too good to be true
You must be wary of super cheap prices, though. Hiring cars isn’t the cheapest of things anymore but that’s key to remember is that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
A lot of bargain car hire prices won’t include fuel or you may be asked to pay more for insurance purposes.
If vintage episodes of Airline or that one time we caught pink eye at a Tenerife foam party have taught us anything, it’s that YOU’VE GOT TO READ THE FINE PRINT. And this tip couldn’t be more true than for car hire.
You need a driver’s license – and there may be an age requirement
You need a valid driver’s license, a valid form of ID – such as a passport – and a debit or credit card. You also have to be at least 25 to hire a car too. Sorry baby drivers, it’s time for the bus.
Check the vehicle
Make sure you allow time to thoroughly check the vehicle before getting onto the road. Ask to go through things and have rental bosses answer any of your questions. And always double check the drop-off time so you don’t incur any late fees.
Take photos of existing damage as soon as you can. Companies, such as Enterprise, allows for general wear and tear but make sure you’ve got proof of any large dents or cracks that weren’t your fault.
And finally, you can relax about any last minute panics as some companies, yep, Enterprise included, allows you to cancel up to three days beforehand at no cost.
Now you are officially sorted for your Ibiza vacay.
