China hospital stabbing leaves at least 2 dead
At least two people have died, and 23 people injured after a knife attack at Zhenxiong People’s Hospital in Yunnan province, southwest China. The assault took place around 13:20 local time (05:20 GMT).
Photographs released by China’s The Paper show a man dressed in black brandishing a knife in each hand, with another individual standing before him in the frame. Additionally, footage from The Paper showcased a significant police presence outside the hospital, with numerous police vehicles and officers on the scene. Access to the hospital’s car park had been restricted as well.
Some reports say the suspect has been arrested but there is no clear confirmation yet. Firearms are banned in China but the country has seen a spate of knife attacks in recent years.
In a similar event last August, a man stabbed two people to death and injured seven in a residential area of Yunnan. Additionally, in July of that same year, a tragic stabbing at a kindergarten in Guangdong province claimed the lives of six individuals, including three children.
