Spain rescues 119 migrants at sea, the search continues

Arab News says, 119 migrants have been rescued by Spain at sea. They are currently still searching for 67 others missing from a boat that was trying to reach European shores, maritime authorities said. spain rescues migrants from sea

A spokesman with Spain’s Maritime Rescue agency said the search for the missing rubber boat in the stretch of Mediterranean Sea separating Spain from Morocco had been suspended for the night and will resume on Tuesday. 

The official said the rubber dinghy was believed to be in Morocco’s rescue area.

HS2: Government to give high-speed rail line the go-ahead

BBC News says the government is set to approve the controversial HS2 rail project

An announcement on the route linking London to Birmingham, and then on to Manchester and Leeds is expected by the hs2 given green light by governmentPM on Tuesday.

HS2 will improve transport times, create jobs and rebalance the UK’s economy but the rising cost of the project and talks of mismanagement have provoked anger from critics.  

The high-speed rail project is due to be completed by 2040 – it is already over budget and behind schedule.

Lebanon protesters try to block confidence vote

France24 says protesters in Beirut attempted to stop a confidence vote in parliament Tuesday on a new government lebanon protesters fired at as they try to block vote of confidencethey say fails to address their demands and cannot rescue Lebanon’s failing economy

Security forces used tear gas and water cannon to break up groups of demonstrators who hurled rocks over blast walls erected around parliament. 

According to The Red Cross, 24 people had been hospitalised and 147 treated at the scene. The army called for the protesters to remain peaceful.

Number of US soldiers suffering from brain injuries from January Iraq attack tops 100

Fox News says more than 100 US troops have been diagnosed with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the weeks 2 US soldiers dead in afghan attackfollowing Iranian airstrikes targeting American forces in Iraq, the Pentagon said. 

Officials confirmed 109 troops had TBI as a result of the attack, up from 64 reported last month. Of the injured, 76 have returned to duty. 

“The Defence Department is steadfast in its efforts to deliver programs and services intended to lead to the best possible outcomes for our service members,” sais Alyssa Farah, the Pentagon press secretary.

The ex-partner of Bobby Kristina Brown died of a heroin overdose

Sky News reports the former partner of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s late daughter died from an accidental heroin overdose, a post-mortem found. nick gordon died of heroin overdose

Nick Gordon (who was taken in by Whitney as a child) was found unresponsive at a Sheraton hotel in Orlando, Florida, on New Year’s Day and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. 

The 30-year-old once dated Bobbie Kristina Brown but the pair separated not long after singer Whitney Houston died on February 2012. Three years after Whitney’s death her daughter Bobbie Kristina died.
