Suspected suicide bombing at police headquarters in Indonesia’s Medan

France24 reports officers have been injured in a suspected suicide bombing outside police headquarters in the city of Medan. The blast killed the perpetrator police confirmed. National police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said the bombing happened in a car park near to where people were queuing for clearance letters from police. 

“We’re on alert right now”, Prasetyo told Kompas TV. “The explosion didn’t reach the centre for the clearance letter service, it was just in a parking lot.”

An Israeli airstrike killed Baha Abu al-Ata, 42, and his wife as they slept in their home in eastern Gaza on Tuesday. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman said Abu al-Ata was responsible for several recent attacks on southern Israel and claimed he was planning more. 

“Baha Abu Al Ata was the senior commander of Islamic Jihad in Gaza, responsible for most attacks emanating from Gaza over the last year,” IDF Chief of General Staff said. “He was a ticking time-bomb…there was a window of opportunity that we utilised precisely.”

RT News says Rabi Pirzada, the Pakistani pop star who quit the music industry after nude photos and videos of her were leaked online, has reportedly set off on a spiritual quest to have a fresh start in life. Pakistani pop star Rabi Pirzada, who posed in suicide vest, turns to religion after quitting showbiz over leaked nudes

Pirzada made headlines with her provocative social media posts aimed at India’s PM Modi including a photograph of her wearing a suicide vest and a video featuring large reptiles. She is still active online but her messages are more introspective.

“A new beginning #saveasoul.” she tweeted, along with several photos of a painting she made of the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam.

Food banks are giving out the highest number of emergency parcels in five years, Trussell Trust reports

iNews says one of the UK’s largest food banks says it has given out over 823,000 parcels containing urgently-needed supplies in its busiest period. The charity says more people than ever before are being forced to use food banks. Food banks are giving out the highest number of emergency parcels in five years, Trussell Trust reports

The Trussell Trust experienced a 23 per cent rise in demand for emergency three-day food parcels between April and September 2019 compared with the same period last year.

Each parcel contains enough food for one person for three days but individuals may be referred more than once in a year. Of the 823,145 parcels handed out more than 300,000 went to children.

Sarah Barrass, 35 and her partner, Brandon Machin, 39, who is also her half-brother, planned to kill all six of their children amid fears they would be taken into care. The pair were sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison with a minimum term of 35 years. 

Tristan and Blake Barrass, aged 13 and 14 respectively, died after being strangled by the pair at their home in Sheffield on 24 May.
