BRITAIN JOINS US IN PROTECTING SHIPPING IN THE GULF

The Independent reports, the UK has joined the US-led naval mission to protect international shipping in the Gulf following tanker seizures by the Iranian military. The UK joining the mission reflects the serious escalating security crisis in the region. Britain joins US in protecting shipping in Gulf

Two Royal Navy ships already in the Gulf will be helping two US ships accompany vessels safely through the Strait of Hormuz. Officials have said the mission will not remain under US control and will eventually transition to European command.

BREXIT: EU SAYS ‘NO ALTERNATIVE’ TO NO-DEAL

The Daily Express reports, EU officials have said there is ‘no alternative’ to a no-deal Brexit and are fully preparing for the UK to leave the EU without a deal on 31 October. The paper suggests EU officials have given up on PM Boris Johnson’s ability to deliver an agreement and his plans to scrap the Irish backstop has pretty much ended all hopes of a deal. The BBC adds, EU officials have said there is currently no basis for “meaningful discussions” with the UK over Brexit. As reported by the BBC one negotiator said: “We are back where we were three years ago.” Johnson is committed to a “do or die” and will leave by the deadline- without or without a deal.

TATE MODERN: BOY, 6, ‘THROWN’ OFF BALCONY WAS A FRENCH TOURIST

BBC News reports the 6-year-old boy who was ‘thrown’ off the 10th-floor balcony of the Tate Modern has been confirmed as being a French tourist. The boy and his family were visiting the Tate Modern during a holiday to the Capital.Tate Modern: 6-year-old ‘thrown’ off balcony was French tourist

The Met Police confirmed his condition is critical but stable and said he was no longer in a life-threatening situation. The 17-year-old boy who was arrested immediately after the incident remains in custody. The Met said they were treating the “truly shocking incident” as an “isolated event with no distinct or apparent motive.”

It was confirmed that there is no link between the 17-year-old and the victim.
