NO-DEAL BREXIT: TRAFFIC WARDENS COULD GET MORE POWER

I News reports, if a no-deal Brexit goes ahead traffic wardens could gain more power under the plans to keep Dover gridlock free. The suggested powers could include issuing fines to lorry drivers and demanding to see the required documentation. No-deal Brexit: Traffic wardens could gain more power

If given such responsibilities, traffic wardens will be able to turn away drivers with incorrect documents from Dover. The Department of Transport is looking for a system in which this can be done to ensure the key port does not become gridlocked. 

The article reports drivers could face increased fines and the department is working with local authorities in Kent, however, the details have not been made public.

TRUMP’S UK VISIT COST MET POLICE £3.5 MILLION

The Guardian reports President Trump’s state visit to the UK in June cost the Met Police £3.5million it has been revealed. The state visit saw the rollout of more than 6.300 officers amid reports the police resources are overstretched. Trump’s UK visit cost Met £3.5 million

The three-day trip cost the Met slightly less than Trump’s 2018 UK visit which cost just under £3m. However, the 2018 four-day-trip totalled up at more than £14.2m for forces across the UK.

The figures released under the Freedom of Information Act show the full break down of the state visit. The figures included £31,385 on fleet costs, £23,000 on hotels and £34,481 on catering. 

Trump’s UK visit was met with tens of thousands of protesters in the Capital, with the majority of the 6,300 officers deployed sent to the street to keep control of the protests.

TOWN EVACUATED AFTER DAM WALL COLLAPSES

WTX News reports an entire town is on high alert after police evacuate thousands of residents after part of a dam wall collapsed. Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire flood alert as thousands evacuated to safe place - due to dam collapse

Engineers are pumping 7000 litres of water per minute from the Toddbrook Reservoir to bring the water level down to avoid the dam bursting and flooding the town in Derbyshire.

Over 6000 residents have been told to gather at a local school, taking pets and medication with them whilst the town remains on a severe weather warning.

Officials have told local residents they are not sure how long the evacuation could last, adding they could be working on it “for days.” They said evacuated residents should try to find their own accommodation as space is limited. Local community halls and pubs have offered to take in those evacuated.
