BREXIT: EXTRA £2.1BN FUNDING TO PREPARE FOR NO-DEAL

BBC News reports, the government announced an extra £2.1bn worth of funding to prepare for a possible no-deal Brexit. Brexit: Extra £2.1bn funding to prepare for no-deal.

“This additional £2.1bn will ensure we are ready to leave on 31 October-deal or no-deal.” Chancellor Sajid Javid said. 

The no-deal Brexit plans and extra funding include more border force officers, stockpiling medicine, easing traffic congestion in Kent, tackling queues created by delays at the border and a national programme to help businesses. 

Labour attacked the plans as an ‘appalling waste’ of cash after PM Johnson topped up the no-deal fund.  Shadow Chancellor McDonnell said the government could have ruled out a no-deal Brexit and used the £2.1bn on schools, hospitals and people.

ANTISEMITIC INCIDENTS UP 10%

The Guardian reports, according to the Community Security Trust (CST) incidents in Britain relating to Anti Semitism has risen by 10% in the first 6 months of the year. CST said there were 892 reported incidents between January and June, 10% more than last year. Antisemitic incidents up 10%

The comparisons with 2018 don’t stop there, over a third of incidents involved social media which was significantly higher than in 2018. Over two-thirds of the incidents took place in Greater London and Greater Manchester – both have a high Jewish population.

OAP RELEASED AFTER BEING ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF WIFE’S MURDER- REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Sun reports, an OAP arrested on suspicion of his wife’s murder has been released. Workers found bones in a septic tank at the farm, they believe the human remains to be his wife. David Venables, 86, was held on suspicion of murdering his wife Brenda. Mr Venables is still under investigation. OAP released after being arrested on susipcion of wife’s 1982 murder, still under investigation

In 1982 Brenda’s disappearance was treated as a missing persons search and no murder inquiry was launched.
