MPS WANT DEDICATED POLICE FOR VIOLENT SCHOOLS

BBC News reports, MPs are calling for dedicated police at violent schools in an attempt to curb knife and gun crime. SHETLAND ISLAND: 3RD MURDER IN 50 YEARS

The Dailymail reports, Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of a 40-year-old mother of two. The woman was found with a slashed throat outside a property in Lerwick. Police have arrested a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman in connection with the murder. Detectives from the mainland have been called in to support the local Shetland police in the investigation. 

The woman has been named locally as Tracy Walker. Ms Walker was a care worker on the Island a lived near to where her body was discovered. Her murder has been described as a ‘gruesome’ and ‘horrific’.

UK IS WORLD’S SECOND-LARGEST ARMS EXPORTER

 The Guardian reports, the UK has reclaimed its title as the World’s second-largest arms exporter after it was revealed a record  £14bn sales last year. Campaigners have said the figures reveal the UK is “arming and supporting repressive regimes”. The department for International Trade said the figures show the UK has returned to its place as the second-largest arms exporter after the US. 

Campaign Against Arms Trade said the figures “exposed the rank hypocrisy at the heart of UK foreign policy. The Government claims to stand for human rights and democracy, but it is arming and supporting repressive regimes and dictatorships around the world.”

The staggering records show the defence orders rose from £5bn to £14bn making the rise the biggest year since records began.
