Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan convened an urgent meeting of national security chiefs and condemned the “irresponsible Indian policy”.

Mr Khan has summoned a special meeting of the National Command Authority (NCA) – the body that oversees Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.

India says it launched air strikes against militants in Pakistani territory, in a major escalation of tensions between the two countries.

The government said strikes targeted a training camp of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group in Balakot.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said “Once again [the] Indian government has resorted to a self-serving, reckless and fictitious claim,” a statement issued after the meeting said. “This action has been done for domestic consumption, being in an election environment, putting regional peace and stability at grave risk.”

The government called a joint session of parliament for Wednesday to give a unified response to the “violation” of the line of control.

Mr Khan has summoned a special meeting of the National Command Authority (NCA) – the body that oversees Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.

Pakistani Major General Ghafoor has warned India by saying  ‘The nation is ready. We are one. It is time for India to wait for our response,’ ….. our response will come at the point and time of our choosing.

This is a response to an Indian army attack in Pakistan when the military aircraft violated Pakistani airspace as they “intruded” from the Muzaffarabad sector and were forced to return owing to the “timely response of the Pakistan Air Force.”

Relations between the nuclear-armed neighbours have been strained since a suicide attack earlier this month that killed more than 40 Indian troops.

The incursion into the Pakistani air space follows a series of threats by Indian political and military leadership following the attack on an Indian Army convoy at Pulwama by local youth, in reaction to the oppression unleashed by the occupational forces.
