US military quits Syria but all eyes are focused on Corbyn’s lips!

Jeremy Corbyn calls Theresa May a Stupid Woman

News headlines focus on what Corbyn did or din’t say to May while editors miss the big story of US military pulling out of Syria and plunging America foreign policy into chaos

Today’s news agenda is being dominated over a heated exchange during Prime Minister’s Questions in the Westminster Parliament between Theresa May and Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Lots of folk including those from the BBC and other mainstream media are saying he mouthed “stupid woman” at her while his aides dismiss this and insist he said “stupid people.” Some media are even hiring professional lip readers to find out what Corbyn said.

Meanwhile, no one seems to be paying the slightest bit of attention to a breaking news story which is sensational and will have serious consequences across the Middle East.

Apparently, the US military is withdrawing its forces from northeastern Syria and the move puts a huge question mark over the future of US strategy in the region.

Military partners in northeastern Syria have already been told of the immediate plans to pull out all 2,000 American troops.

US President Donald Trump threatened to quit Syria in the Spring of 2018 saying it was about time the Arab world stepped up to the plate instead.

He later about turned but it looks as though he’s changed his mind again. I wonder if it had anything to do with his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who apparently threatened to launch an assault on America’s Kurdish partners in Syria.

If that is the case then the Kurdish military would be wise to withdraw its presence as well.

Bear in mind Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is establishing airfields and bases in Syria ever closer to Israeli territory while the rhetoric between Israel and Iran is simmering away, the region is as incendiary as ever.

Meanwhile, Trump seems hell-bent on provoking Iran over its nuclear programme while avoiding a military clash with the Iranians on the ground in Syria. Carrying out both manoeuvres at the same time is certainly sending out mixed signals.

I fear this is all going to get very messy. But, hey-ho, the big story in Britain today is Corbyn not calling the Prime Minister a “stupid woman”!
